Dr. Simon worked with Dr. Petersen for 9 years while attending undergraduate school at UC Irvine, and then at Southern California College of Optometry. He graduated magna cum laude, and fulfilled a dream he expressed when he was just 13 years old.

Dr. Simon demonstrated exceptional clinical and academic skills, scoring in the 96th percentile on the National Board exam. He received many awards, including the Dr. William Feinbloom Low Vision Award; the highest financial award a senior intern can receive.

Dr. Simon has a wide range of clinical experience that he gained during his internships at the Veterans Administration Ambulatory Care Clinic, the Optometric Center of Los Angeles, the Foothill Center for the Partially Sighted, the San Diego Center for Vision Care, and the Eye Care Center in Fullerton. These clinics provided him with experience in primary care, ocular disease, contact lenses, and pediatrics, as well as management of patients with low vision, brain injuries, and geriatric conditions.

Dr. Simon is also a part-time staff doctor at the Eye Care Center in Fullerton, California, and at the Optometric Center of Los Angeles.

On a personal note, Brett enjoys a variety of activities including soccer, surfing, golfing, fishing, and snowboarding. He has also volunteered in the annual Marine Ecology field study in Baja, Mexico, conducted by Dana Hills High School.

Furthermore, Brett is an Ambassador for the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce where he participates in city proceedings such as The Festival of Whales, The Turkey Trot, Health Fairs, and Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for new businesses.

When asked why he became an eye doctor, he remarked "I was able to experience first hand what it was like to get my first pair of glasses when I was 13 years old and the impact it had on the quality of my life.  I wanted to help others experience this feeling.  During my education I learned that the visual system is more than just seeing clear.  It's integrated with the rest of the body and mind.  This makes it necessary to address the overall health of my patients in addition to the vision."

Dr. Simon is very pleased to return to his hometown of Dana Point to practice optometry. He will focus on primary care, contact lenses, ocular disease, low vision, and pediatrics.
